I hope everybody's days are indeed merry and bright. I just realized I've never posted my blog about my favorite Christmas flicks <GASP> so it's time to rectify this blasphemy. Without further ado, here is my personal Top 10. This includes Christmas specials.
Honorable Mentions (in alphabetical order): Die Hard, Home Alone 2, Lethal Weapon, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Night Before, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, "A Benihana Christmas" from "The Office"
10) How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I know. I'm a Grinch to have this so low. At least it made the list. I think I'm the only one of my generation who doesn't care for Jim Carrey's live-action version. This classic cartoon however is wonderful.
9) It's A Wonderful Life
A classic. Not necessarily one I watch every single year, and sometimes I gotta be in the mood. But let's face it. So many holiday movies/specials/even TV shows have paid homage this film in some way or another. Because it's amazing!
8) Gremlins
A black comedy full of holiday chaos. It's funny, scary, and just plain fun. My favorite bit is the scene with the mom in the kitchen. And who can forget Phoebe Cates' deadpan monologue about why she hates Christmas? Y'all. So good.
7) Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special
I've always been a Pee-Wee fan. When my pff bff Andie found out I'd never seen this special back in 2012 she was beside herself. We put it in. My life has never been the same. Required viewing every year (usually with tacos and Tecate), this gonzo special makes my inner child all giddy. Also Grace Jones' "Little Drummer Boy" is the ONLY acceptable version of that song.
6) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
"Why are we only #6, Todd?" "I don't KNOW, Margo." There are so many reasons why this is the best of the Vacation movies. That could be its own list. It's just wonderful, from that awful theme song to the patriotic ending, what a laugh riot. Play ball!
5) Elf
Immensely quotable. Absolutely hilarious. Wonderfully charming. What can you not say about this modern-day classic? Other than a slightly lagging third act, it's pretty much perfect. I just like to smile! Smiling's my favorite!
4) Black Christmas
I may get some flack for not having A Christmas Story on this list but you know what? I didn't watch that growing up. So here's director Bob Clark's OTHER holiday classic. It's a slow burn so modern audiences beware. But THIS is the perfect lump of coal for your stocking. Olivia Hussey. Margot Kidder. Andrea Martin. Where can you go wrong?!
3) Home Alone
As a movie buff I can point out its flaws (the tone is off, part heartwarming, part slapstick). Or I can just forget about it and enjoy one of the best holiday flicks from my childhood. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!
2) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
The best of the Rankin-Bass Christmas specials. Just try to argue with me about that. Memorable music, hilarious characters, and a heartwarming story all combine to make one of the best Christmas specials ever, except for...
1) A Charlie Brown Christmas
...THIS!!! Oh wow. I love the Peanuts so maybe I'm biased. But how can you not fall in love with this every single time you watch it?? Vince Guaraldi's score is just the cherry on top. It's timeless. End of discussion.

Happenin' Happenings
It's Wednesday. WOO WOOOOO! HUMP DAYYY!!!
But also Happy Sit-at-the-Theatre Day!
You see, every two or three weeks the fam has a cleaning lady come clean the house. I guess when the two eldest children moved out, the parentals decided it was too late to teach Young Ann how to do chores so *BAM* now we have a maid. Anyway on these days we are not allowed to be at home. So we come sit here at the theatre until mid-afternoon or so. It's not bad. I'm just sitting around like I would be doing. It's just that I've been awake since 3:30 in the morning.
Yup my 6am shifts at Target are now 4:30am shifts. Woof. Good thing I'm used to early hours! 4:30 though... I mean sometimes I'm still awake at 4:30. (It's been a while but it happens.) Here's a rundown of a typical morning. We unload the truck. Then I head over and push all the Electronics/Entertainment products. If there's time afterward I stay and help stock other departments. I'm off by noon or 1pm, and then I have the rest of the day to do whatever I please! Not a bad gig if I do say so myself. Just early. Like before Jesus early.
In other news, I'm going to be in "The Nutcracker" for the first time in 10 years! Woo hoo! I'm helping out a friend who runs a ballet studio both in Newnan and in Peachtree City. When he asked if I wanted to be a Party Parent for his Party Scene I immediately said "YES!!!" Now anyone who's seen/performed in "The Nut" knows being a Party Parent isn't the most exciting job. But it's always fun to perform onstage. ANNND I get to be Mother Ginger in Act II! So if any of you have ever wanted to see Joe Moore dressed in drag... well maybe I should've said something earlier so you could plan ahead and see the show. But yeah it'll be a lot of fun!
There is a show I CAN inform you of with plenty of advance notice. I have my first ever speaking role <GASP> coming up soon!

Newnan Theatre Company is performing Lewis Black's (yes THAT Lewis Black) "One Slight Hitch". It's set in the 80s (YAASSS), and it tells the story of a young woman and her family preparing for her wedding when the doorbell rings. It's her ex. It's MOI. Let the shenanigans begin!
If you haven't heard of the story, definitely look it up. Black's humor is pretty hilarious. It's not nearly as profane as what you'd think coming from Black, but there are a few choice words scattered throughout the show :P I'm definitely looking forward to branching out as a performer. We've got a great cast, and we're really gonna rock the house!

Fright Flicks: Part Deux
Here it is mid-November and I never finished my "Fright Flicks" list. So because I will never let go of Halloween (and because I can never seem to remember this blog), here ya go.
10/16 - Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
How did I miss this last year? It's absolutely hilarious! No worries. I'm all caught up now.
10/17 - The Gift
Not horror so much as a romantic thriller. It's still counts though because Sam Raimi. Great cast too!
10/18 - The Burning
Underrated classic 80s slasher! It starts a little slow but when it gets going... that raft scene. WOW!
10/19 - Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil
Another horror/comedy that somehow slipped through my fingers. One-note joke but dammit it's a funny one!
10/20 - Crystal Lake Memories
I love Never Sleep Again so when I heard the same production company made a Friday the 13th doc, I had to check it out! So extensive and in depth for. each. film. Love it!
10/21 - Intruder
I watched this film because 1) I've worked at a grocery store so I know how monotonous it is and 2) I love the crew behind it. My thoughts? It's so-so. A little too slow for my taste. I also somehow watched the dry version. Gotta find that unrated cut so I can see the kills in all their bloody glory!
10/22 - Venom
A lot of people seem to have forgotten about this flick. I like it though. It's incredibly stupid but that's kind of its charm. If you haven't seen it and you like slasher flicks, give it a shot!
10/23 - "Scream Queens: Season 2"
This counts right? Right.
10/24 - "Bob's Burgers"
It also counts if I watch every Halloween-themed episode of my favorite show. Watch season 7's episode NOW.
10/25 - Stephen King's IT
Clowns are the worst.
10/26 - "Evil Dead: The Musical"
Absolutely hysterical. I love all the references to the first two flicks. Look it up!
10/27 - The Evil Dead
So of course I had to rewatch the one that started it all. LOVE this flick!!!
10/28 - Shaun of the Dead
Hands down. One of my favorites.
10/29 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show
If you follow me on Snapchat, you know that I very drunkenly watched this cult classic at midnight. In my Rick Ashley costume. I regret nothing!!
10/30 - The Nightmare Before Christmas
Is it possible to make it through the holiday season without watching this amazing movie?! The answer is no.
10/31 - Halloween
Same goes for this classic. Which of course I watched on Halloween. Late at night. In the dark. By myself. YEESSS!!!

Fright Flicks: Part I
Wow. I really need to get better about keeping up with this blog. Sorry! I've been super busy with the new job and a little show called "The Addams Family". We just opened last night to a sold out crowd, and we KILLED it! The audience responded really well. I couldn't be more proud of our insanely talented cast!
If you know me at all you know I'm an uber film buff with an unabashed love for horror flicks. I can watch them all year 'round. One thing that I do every October is watch a horror movie a day. How I manage to do that with work, shows, occasional housesitting, and the obligatory afternoon nap I will never know. But I do because priorities.
So without further ado, here is list #1 of the flicks I've watched so far this year!
10/1 - The VVitch
I wasn't blown away, but I didn't hate it either. I guess I'm on the fence. Either way you have to give props to writer/director Robert Eggers for retaining the old English dialogue and keeping a creepy atmoshpere all throughout.
10/2 - Hocus Pocus
I had to get this one out of the way. I've actually come to appreciate this flick more and more as an adult. It's completely silly but in a fun way. And this is probably the only time I've liked Sarah Jessica Parker.
10/3 - Nightbreed
I had no idea what to expect. It started off kinda slow, but it eventually pulled me in and I had a blast! I watched the Director's Cut, which apparently is much better than the theatrical cut... so yay!
10/4 - Jaws: The Revenge
Curiosity got the best of me. I'd never seen this film, but I knew it had a reputation of being awful. I thought maybe it would be fun in a "so bad, it's good" way. I was dead wrong. Except for Lorraine Gray's bizarrely focused performance, this is a cheap turd.
10/5 - The Blair Witch Project
I hadn't watched this flick in years. I figured I'd check it out before I saw the new film (bad idea). I've always been on the fence with this one, but it's hard to deny the power of suggestion and what you don't see is absolutely terrifying.
10/6 - Blair Witch
I didn't like it. Which is a bummer because I like director's Adam Wingard's previous work. I guess he just had to get this outta the way. There are some fun moments, but for the most part... meh.
10/7 - Phantasm
I love Love LOVE this film. With Ravager released this year, I decided to sit down and have myself a Phantasm marathon one weekend. I loved every minute of it.
10/8 - Phantasm II
Now for Part Deux! This is essentially the Aliens of the franchise. Bigger budget, bigger effects, and lots more action! The original is still the best, but this is a damn fun ride!
10/9 - Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead
Probably my least favorite of the franchise. The pace doesn't lag, and the performances are fine. The campiness is what overtakes and completely ruins the film.
10/10 - Phantasm IV: Oblivion
While Part III is snippy but campy, this entry finds the eerieness but loses the pace. It's very bland. Nothing happens. It's just there. Blah. Blah again.
10/11 - Phantasm: Ravager
A rocking good time! Clearly a fan-service film so newbies steer clear. Also the ending is very anti-climatic. I was still waiting for the climax, then <BAM> credits. That being said, all the franchise return appearances are fun. "Phans" should definitely check it out!
10/12 - Bubba Ho-tep
Since I watched the entire Phantasm franchise, I decided to rewatch another of director Don Coscarelli's work. I forgot how much I love it! Not nearly as cheesy as you'd think it would be. It's actually kinda somber. Don't get me wrong though! The Chin (Bruce Campbell) as Elvis is definitely a good time!
10/13 - The Addams Family
I had to watch these this year. So fitting! It's fun seeing the Addams in a 90s setting. The performances are also absolutely perfect. However...
10/14 - Addams Family Values
...I've always been partial to this sequel, the better of the two in my humble opinion. It's so zany and fun! Joan Cusack makes a perfect villainess, and those camp scenes... wow. I'm laughing hysterically just thinking about it.
10/15 - Friday the 13th: Part VII - The New Blood
I was in Orlando at a video game bar so maybe this doesn't count buuut I watched MOST of it. It's hard to look away from a terrible 80s flick with a telekinetic heroine!
OKAY! There's the first half of the flicks I've watched this year. Let me know in the comments what you think of them, if you've seen them, or just tell me how crazy I am. See you again at the end of the month for the second half!

Still Starting Something New
Once again I have neglected my blog for an extended period of time. Once again I apologize for this.
First thing's first. Guess what today is. Yes, it's hump day. Woo WOO! HUMP DAYYY!

Everybody good? Good because there's a LOT to go over.
So remember how I decided to move back home? I've been living here in Georgia at my parents' place since the end of March. Their generosity has been amazing, and I can't thank them enough for helping me out. Yes, I do want my own place eventually, but that's not going to happen for a while.
I worked this summer as choreographer with KidsCamp at Newnan Theatre Company. It was AWESOME! I met a lot of cool new peeps and had a blast. Sure, kids aren't really my thing, but after working at an amusement park for 9 years, I know how to handle them. You just ignore them right? Right.
I've rediscovered a passion of mine that I haven't been able to explore in a while. CHOREOGRAPHY. I forgot how much I love to create something out of dance and movement. I guess I'm pretty good at it too because I'm also choreographing for NTC's production of The Addams Family. It's going to be our Halloween show. I'm very honored to be a part of it. We've got an insanely talented cast. It's going to be AMAZING!
That was my summer job and fall fun. However that does not bring in the moolah. Much less any money at all. And I gots stuff to do. I didn't move up here for nothing. I struggled for a month and a half after KidsCamp ended in mid-July. Then I did something I should've done when I first moved down. I asked my sistah gurl Ann to help get me a job at Target. AND I GOT IT!
So yes now I'm a crazy Target guy. I work flow, which means unloading the trucks three mornings or more a week. It's actually kinda great because the schedule is similar to what I was working before I left Disney. 6am-noonish. Yes, the mornings are early, but I prefer to get work out of the way and have the rest of the day to myself. Anyway I unload the truck, and I've been pushing (i.e. stocking) the Electronics department before helping out wherever else I'm needed in the store. It's grunt work for sure, but it's a pretty sweet gig. THANKS ANN!!!
Hmm let's see. Happily living in Georgia, choreography, Target... Did I miss anything? That month and a half where I didn't have a job was rough not only financially but emotionally as well. I spent lots of time (read: too much time) pondering life decisions. But I've got a job now, money is rolling in, and I'm staying pretty busy. That being said, I do miss my Whorlandians VERY MUCH. I love every single one of you, and I hope to see ya real soon! And I can't believe I just said that.
As for getting into film? Yes, that's still a dream of mine. Right now I just need to get my feet footed firmly in the ground. I'm still writing in my spare time. That screenplay I've been working on for years? Still working on it. I think my problem was I wasn't sure how it was going to end. I'd been aimlessly writing with no end in sight. But I've fixed that now so hopefully I'll finish the script sometime in the next 10 years.
Okay I think that's quite enough of that. Get ready for the next post because it's gonna be really fun. Until then, peace!

As for getting into film? Yes, that's still a dream of mine. Right now I just need to get my feet footed firmly in the ground. I'm still writing in my spare time. That screenplay I've been working on for years? Still working on it. I think my problem was I wasn't sure how it was going to end. I'd been aimlessly writing with no end in sight. But I've fixed that now so hopefully I'll finish the script sometime in the next 10 years.
