These past couple of days leaving work you better believe once I got on the interstate I blasted this song through the speakers and sang along obnoxiously. The One NOT About Texas
I've been putting off a birthday/Texas update because I've been trying to figure out a way to add pictures to my blog from my iPad. Alas I still have no idea how to do such things. So today you will NOT hear about my amazing birthday week in the Lone Star state. Actually I have no idea when you will hear about that week. BUT! If you just absolutely have to know how incredible my week was, all you have to do is check out this link to my sistah gurl's blog. Her blog is so fancy. It doesn't look like a 2005 Xanga profile. Also she's quite possibly a better writer than I ever will be. So enjoy!
What I WILL talk about today is how frikkin excited I am for the Halloween season! That's right folks. Despite Orlando, Florida being a sunny, humid 90 degrees with a 105 degree heat index, the Halloween season is officially upon us. Both the Not So Scary parties at Magic Kingdom and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal have started, and I cannot wait to visit both of them.
I haven't attended a Not So Scary party in who knows how long. I believe the last time was with my family in 2009, and we all dressed like Black Eyed Peas. No, not the band. Actual black eyed peas. We all wore shirts with a giant P on them, and we all put black makeup around one eye. That's the kind of creative costumes the Moore family comes up with at the last minute. Be jealous.
Anyway I'm really excited to attend the party. I don't know if you've heard or not, but there's a new show at the castle stage this year. The Sanderson sisters from Disney's Hocus Pocus are showing up for the first time EVER. Good for Disney for finally realizing what a big deal these three are to so many people. I will admit I never watched Hocus Pocus growing up. It just isn't a movie the Moore family owned. However, despite how completely silly it is, it's grown on me over the years. And I have many friends performing in the show. So I am most excited to watch it!
Then of course there's Halloween Horror Nights. Which is just awesome. I don't think there's anything more to say about that.
OH! And all the horror movies!!! I've already started watching them of course. I watched all four Scream movies this past week. I love that series so much. Once October starts I'm going to watch at least one horror movie a day. I'll keep you posted.

Birthday! Vacation! Update!
I'm a huge weirdo who, even though I turn the big 3-0 next year, doesn't make a big deal about my age. I actually look forward to my birthday every year. So bring it, adulthood!
Speaking of birthdays, mine is in TWO DAYS!!!
I'm very excited. I'm headed out to Texas for the first time since I remember. I've been once. When I was 2. So yeah. I'm pretty stoked. I'm flying into San Antonio to sightsee but mostly to be obnoxious at the Alamo and ask where the basement is. I'm sure they never get that. From there I'm headed up to Houston to visit my Sistah Gurl and freddiefriend in their relatively new hometown. She has promised ALL the best food Texas has to offer while he has a list of ALL the breweries we have to visit. It's gonna be the BEST!
I'm also gonna update my blog at some point in the near future. Ya know so it doesn't look like my Xanga profile from 2005. So look for that coming up soon.
Also are you ready? Get excited. Because the Halloween season is upon us! So prepare yourselves for a lot of obnoxious posts about horror movies and Halloween parties and whatever amazing costumes my Pff Bff and I decide to wear this year.
Basically you aren't even ready for the awesomeness that is about to strike. But it's happening anyway. HUZZAH!

Summer's Top 5

5) The Gift
The trailers made this captivating thriller look like a typical psycho revenge flick a la Single White Female. I can assure you it is anything but. There is no black and white here. Each character is drawn out enough that you understand where each is coming from. That's all I will say. A remarkable, engrossing dramatic thriller from first-time writer/director Joel Edgerton.
4) Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
I just watched this pulsating action-thriller this afternoon so it may be too soon to add this in my Top 5 but screw it. It engaged me and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire ride. I'd even go as far as to say it's better than Ghost Protocol, but that would be pushing it. Cruise is still a superstar, but his female co-star Rebecca Ferguson sure gives him a run for his money.
3) Inside Out
This charming family flick is definitely a return to form for Pixar after a few so-so entries. While maybe not as good as Wall-E or Up, this film ingeniously takes us on a journey inside the human mind. And just like any good Pixar movie, it tugs on the heart strings along the way. Great voice cast too!
2) Trainwreck
I've always enjoyed Judd Apatow's movies. If slightly overlong (and this movie continues that trend) there's something hilarious and real he brings to his films. And this is no exception. Plus he has the hilarious Amy Schumer as his writer/star. The two work wonders together. This flick is hilarious, sweet, raunchy, and adorable all at once. Loved it!
But the top goes to...
1) Mad Max: Fury Road
As if any other movie could possibly measure up to this instant action classic. George Miller's return to his roots is without a doubt the best movie of the year. It's a non-stop, balls-to-the-wall, over-the-top, adrenaline rush. Tom Hardy seamlessly steps into the role that made Mel Gibson a star, but this movie belongs to Charlize Theron. Her Furiosa's heroine ranks right up there with Ripley and Sarah Connor. Talk about impressive! I can't wait to watch his endlessly entertaining flick when it collides into stores next week!

It's My Passion. Passion!
I've been working on my main screenplay a lot lately. Which is awesome! Over the past few years, I would pick it up and write for a couple of weeks or so only to put it down and not work on it for months at a time. The last time I completed a draft was in 2009. 6 years ago. That's ridiculous!
This time around I decided my screenplay needed a severe makeover. I started from scratch. I pinpointed who these characters were, their past, present, and goals for the future. I discarded unnecessary plot points. Anything that didn't have to do with the protagonist and his story was tossed out the window.
So here's what I have:
"Following the death of his father, high-school senior
Peter Matthews isn't happy. He goes to school, works a
dull job, goes to bed, etc. It takes the help of
fellow classmate Sarah (along with his sister Liz and
friends) to help him realize what's missing in his life."
Not the most original or even very exciting plot line, I know. I also know the teenage coming-of-age genre is extremely crowded lately. It's Peter's journey to happiness that makes the story. I've sprinkled little details from my personal high school experiences into the script. Peter is a introverted kid with an unabashed love for 80s music and Spider-Man. He works as a cashier at a grocery store. His sister and her friends are ballet dancers who are very witty and always on their toes. I've also decided the story will be set in the spring of 2005, the year that I graduated high school. So there will be topical references sprinkled throughout the tale. The soundtrack will include lots of 80s tunes but also alternative songs from the turn of the century.
Basically it's going to be awesome. I'm really excited to be writing again! It's been far too long since I've enjoyed the writing process. The goal right now is to finish this draft. Then go from there. Who knows? Maybe this script will find its way on the big screen someday <GASP>! Whatever happens, I'll keep you posted.
